World Book Day 2011 will be celebrated in the UK and Ireland on Thursday 3rd March. Designed as a worldwide celebration of reading, the event is marked by over 100 countries around the World.
Partnership
Raintree is working in partnership with World Book Day to promote books and reading for personal enrichment and enjoyment.
Read Around the World
Read Around the World acts as a focus to develop children's understanding of how a library is structured, and for them to get to know the depth of content available.
By using a recognisable medium - the downloadable passport - children will be challenged to explore and research, through both non-fiction and fiction, the wider world. Special stickers enable children to record their achievements, and activity sheets reinforce learning. Most importantly we hope they enjoy the initiative on or around World Book Day.
A range of age-appropriate material is available through the World Book Day portal, or below, and the initiative is fully supported and promoted to schools and pre-schools in the UK and Ireland.
Getting Started
We have produced a range of material to support the Read Around the World initiative. Why not download one of our posters promoting World Book Day and Read Around the World. Get started by downloading your very own passport to reading. Fill in your details, even draw a picture of yourself. When you have completed a book, collect a sticker to show your achievement. Why not enjoy one of our age-appropriate activity sheets, and enjoy finding out more about a country/topic.
